American cousins!

My name is Carmen, I’m Italian and I’m working as volunteer in Fundación CICLO since one month. Argentina is a country which welcomes everybody in a very sincere and warm way. With kind gestures, Argentinean people help who’s far from his country to feel a little as like at home.
Besides, for an Italian like me it’s easier to integrate. Almost the 60% of the population has Italian origins!
Even the period of the big migration is far from today, sons and grandsons of Italian people who chose Argentina as the place to prosper, still feel a strong connection with my country.
Most of the Argentinean persons I met have an Italian surname which they pronounce in a very different way if compared to the Italian pronunciation. Careful, I only said “different” and not “wrong”, from my point of view could be haughty try to correct someone pronouncing his own name and I have to admit that I like very much their accent, it sounds so sweet and agreeable to me!
To better understand the culture of this country, I asked to an acquaintance if he could suggest me some Argentinean dish. With many enthusiasm he answered me with a sequence of familiar dishes:- Milanesa! Canelones! Ñoqui!* -.
Obviously, there are a lot of different things who let the Italian traveller have the pleasure of the adventure and discovery. For example the “colectivo”, the typical bus of Buenos Aires, represents more the Latinity of this place.
The driver is not locked in a glass box as like in Italy and the passenger has to speak to him to buy the ticket. Inside the “colectivo” can’t be missing: music in the radio, chiselled mirrors positioned as internal rearview mirrors, a lot of soft toys and other funny, colourful, kitch and latinally baroque stuff as a pair of furry and coloured dices hanging out the glass!
There are so many things still to discover here in Buenos Aires, everyday is an adventure with my new “American cousins”…
Thank you Fundación CICLO for giving me the opportunity to live this experience which is giving me many culture and food for the soul!

* The Italians cotoletta alla Milanese, cannelloni and gnocchi.
